I created this to combat garbage pollution in my local community of Modesto California.

It can be reworked for global implementation.

Clean up California Program

The purpose of this program is to clean up California by educating and motivating people to reduce garbage pollution and recycle garbage from public spaces such as roadways, waterways, beaches, etc.

This program focuses on three main objectives: cleaning communities, spreading awareness, and motivating people to live a cleaner lifestyle.

In order to ensure clean communities and to reduce trash buildup, Pozzi Recycles will survey site locations, record site locations and maintain site locations. The company will host voluntary clean

up events to actively involve people in cleaning up their communities.

Cleaning Communities

Pozzi Recycles will clean California communities to reduce litter within the community while also taking preventative measures which in turn will ensure cleaner communities. These preventative measures include informative signage, litter bags at the sites and community awareness campaigns. The company will host clean up events where volunteers get together to help clean their community.

Spreading Awareness

Pozzi Recycles will reuse and recycle as much waste as possible from each clean up event to minimize waste. In order to achieve this Pozzi Recycles will re-purpose a majority of the plastic with plastic recycling equipment and all other materials will be recycled at Recycling Centers throughout California. The company will begin its plastic reuse program with Precious Plastic’s four machine setup. A shredder is used to shred the plastic into flakes. Then an extrusion machine is used to extrude the plastic into lines which are then molded in an injection machine to be processed through the compressor and finalized.

Motivating People

Pozzi Recycles will place door brochures within communities that are being prospected for cleaning to increase event awareness. The event coordinator will educate people on the impact of garbage pollution at the beginning of all clean up events through a small orientation which will be given to educate people on why we are cleaning up the area and how the garbage impacts the environment. Educational fliers will also be made available at each event.

-IN DEPTH DESCRIPTION-

The United States contributed 2.2 million metric tons of garbage pollution into the environment in 2016.

1.5 million metric tons of that was discarded along the coastline.

The following is a description of Pozzi Recycle's California Clean Up program.

This program is very simple. Locations are surveyed to find illegal disposal sites. These sites are then recorded and set up for a cleanup date. The event is promoted via social media, the company website and word of mouth. On the event day company employees arrive one hour early to set up the event location for cleanup.

Before the cleanup begins a team briefing is held to discuss the location hazards and safety procedures.

This is also when P.P.E. is loaned out for the duration of the event. Then the team branches off in different directions to clean up the site.

Once the event is over the recyclable material is separated and the garbage is taken to a landfill via a company truck by a company employee. The receipt is filed for records.

The event closes with an appreciation meeting.

This program utilizes the following equipment:

5 Gallon Buckets: 5-gallon buckets are used to store trash in until it is transported into a garbage bag for disposal.

Safety Vests: Safety vests are worn during the events so volunteers and employees are easily identifiable and recognizable in case of an emergency.

Garbage Bags: Garbage bags are used to make transportation of the trash to the landfill easier.

Gophers: Gophers are used to reduce the amount of bending over during clean ups which will reduce injury incidents during events.

Gloves: Gloves are worn to reduce hand injuries during events and to provide better grip for hard to carry garbage.

Safety Glasses: Safety glasses are worn to protect people’s eyes during the cleanup events which will reduce injury incidents.

Face Masks: Face masks are worn to prevent the spread of germs such as Covid-19 during events.

Hand Sanitizer: Hand sanitizer will be used to prevent the spread of germs such as Covid-19 during events.

Company Truck: The company truck is used to transport the garbage to a landfill after events.

The company app and website will provide easy access to event locations and times to further increase event participation. Educational videos will be posted throughout social media to further increase public exposure.

Once the location of the event is clean the event ends and recycle bins are installed but only at event locations where garbage is a recurring problem.
