Reforestation and Food Self-Sustainability Program

The purpose of this program is to implement food self-sustainability throughout communities that is organized and controlled by the citizens of a community.

This program focuses on three main objectives: Community Involvement, Community Donating and Program Expansion.

This program is simple. Pozzi Recycles will broadcast seed throughout society with the guidance of its participants to reforest communities with food producing plants.

Each participant may elect to participate in the seed selection, landscape design and implementation processes of garden creation.

Community Involvement

Community involvement is the most important objective of this program. Without it, providing substantial food self-sustainability that is managed strictly by the citizens of a community will not work.

Pozzi Recycles estimates an 80% community involvement rate is required to provide food for the 20% that can't participate in order to maintain its community food self-sustainability.

Community Donating

Communities already have food banks in place to handle donated food, but some communities may want to try other avenues for dispersing donated food throughout the community.

The more people grow their own food, the more other food will be available to those in need elsewhere.

Program Expansion

In the 21st century, most of the food sustainability in the world is controlled by for profit corporations that are producing food on massive plantations. This means that if the food stops producing at these locations many citizens will not have food.

Expanding this program throughout a country will ensure food is available in times of crisis.

-IN DEPTH DESCRIPTION-

35% of Americans today garden. Only a handful of those gardens provide enough food for the people growing them throughout the whole year. There is 139 million acres of residential land in the form of front yards, backyards and homes throughout the U.S.

This community program utilizes that acreage to ensure the population of the United States has food available at all times regardless of finances, especially during crises.

This is achieved by implementing personalized gardens. These gardens are tailored to the participants activity levels, interest levels and location constraints. For example, if the participant doesn't want to work in the garden, then much of it has to be automated to achieve continued success with that garden. Maybe the participant has a disability and can't walk in their garden, so it has to be tailored for wheel chair accessibility.

These gardens will use current permaculture techniques to maximize on resource reuse and space.

Once a person chooses to participate in the program that person then chooses from a diverse selection of fruit bearing trees, vegetable bearing plants and herbs that will thrive in their environment. The participate then chooses from a list of various landscape designs for implementation. Lastly an implementation date is chosen.

On that implementation date Pozzi Recycles will transform the participants landscape, seed the soil, build the automated system if necessary and educate the participant on how to successfully produce food every season.

Landscape: Pre-designed landscapes are created to make the implementation process simpler and more efficient.

Seed the soil: Seeds are used because they are cost efficient and require less labor and transportation requirements.

Automated System: Some situations require automated watering whether it be from a misting system or direct water lines. These automated systems will utilize timers and water pumps when and where necessary.

Education: A simple demonstration will be given upon completion of the garden to show participants how to maintain the garden. An educational pamphlet will be given and support via the crisis relief and prevention forum will always be available.
